IT'S ALL IN YOUR MIND

Don't even underestimate the power of your own mind. Even if you think otherwise. Even simple positive thoughts will help you maintain your cool and keep things in a positive light. Being focused during practices will help you internalize many details you are required to take note of. Being focused on stage helps you control your emotions and set your singing right. Have FAITH in youself. If you don't, who will...?

Why dwell in the past? Why think about all the mistakes that you have made? Probably the ONLY reason for you to think about the past, is to find the REASON for your mistake, such that you NEVER make them again. Why let this mistake linger in your mind forever and ever, and only to haunt you and make you nervous? Let go of your mistakes and LOOK FORWARD. Think about what you CAN do, and DO IT to the BEST OF YOUR ABILITY.

Something I need you all to realize: Fear is created by yourself. And probably the only way to overcome it, is to BELIEVE that you are CONFIDENT of facing it. NEVER EVER have the thought that you will be engulfed in fear, and that you will not do anything right. The moment that thought enters your mind, the worst will happen. Come on, face it. Everyone has to face their worst fears at some point of their lives. If this is your fear, then I think it's about time for you to start believing in yourself that you CAN overcome it.

It's not like we have not shown good standard before. WE HAVE DONE IT BEFORE. So why can't we do it again...? Stop letting your fear take control of your life. CONTROL YOU VERY OWN LIFE! NEVER SUCCUMB TO "FATE". ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE HOW AND WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN IN YOUR OWN LIFE. And I believe that time is now...

Right...?

URGENT [EDITED]

Hey people!
Please take note of the following:

Ladies:
Bring $47.90
(heels). [REFER TO POST BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS]

Paying by instalment is accepted(as mentioned in Fym's online msg) but not prefered because it gets messy.

Anyhow, as long as I get the full amount latest by this saturday, 25th April,
Im cool with anything :)

Gentlemen:
Bring $115 (Blazer + Tie).

[You'll get $30 in return for each of you from the school later]

Our 2005 senior batches paid $200 for their blazers(w/o ties!), so dont complain okay~

J2s, you are only required to pay the amount listed at the yellow column, which is the amount after deduction from your caroling payout :)

Pass the money to your SLs latest by May 1st.

Queries @ the tagboard or (online)msg Fym or me.

Many thanks,
Ming En ;)

Shoes (GIRLS)

Hey girls!

This is official.

The shoes we intend to standardise to purchase is in pale gold colour. Cost is $47.90 (ORIGINAL PRICE $59.90). I know. Freaking EXXPENSIVE!!!!! But trust me, you'll look gorgeous in it.

Best situation is to standardise: Everone to buy this pair of shoes. Save you the trouble to find time to look for appropriate shoes too.

I'll bring in a pair of this shoes in tmrw's sop voice training session.

If you do not want to purchase the shoes, let me know, and bring your shoes u are wearing on SYF to show me on this Wednesday practice. So i can check your shoes with this standardised colour and confirm if you really can choose not to buy.

Thanks. Have a great day.

p/s thanks everyone for the efficiency to let me note the shoe sizes so quickly yesterday! awesome discipline :)

More vocal health TIPS (:

- Be sure you keep your vocal folds moist and well lubricated. You can do this by drinking plenty of liquids throughout the day.

- Keep tea and coffee consumption to a minimum though, as the caffeine in these drinks dries out the vocal folds and can make the voice sound raspy and scratchy. Alcohol is also bad for the voice, as it dehydrates the body and therefore the vocal folds.

- Take time to take a relaxed, deep breath when you need to before you start to sing or speak. It will make you feel calmer and more confident.

- After speaking for a long time, warm-down by drinking some tepid water. Yawn and then breathe deeply. A yawn is a good exercise for singing as well.

- To nurse your voice through a cold or a throat infection, steam it - put some hot water in a basin, lean over it gently with a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Be careful not to scald yourself! For the best results, do this several times a day for approximately 10 minutes at a time.

- Look after your voice. Don't strain it. Eliminate background noise before you try to speak loudly over it. If you have to project your voice, always use breath support.

- Watch that you DO NOT push your voices from the throat. When you speak, your navel should move towards your backbone. If this doesn't happen, you won't get the best from your voice and you may even damage your voice without realising it.

Oh, and no orange juice too! :D

Love, Sara Lee <3

watch ur DIET!

Hey choir ppl!

As you know, the SYF and the Europe trip is coming up, and we should all be keeping our voice in good shape.

So from TODAY onwards, (no more "aiyah tomorrow then I start") as much as possible, please avoid dairy products, spicy food, chocolates, or anything that causes throat irritation and phlegm.

Only those responsible and willing ones will benefit from this, and it's up to your self-control to keep your voice + throat in the best condition possible, which is to try to get rid of all the phlegm in ur throat. (read: yourself)

6 more practices to go!!! Last stretch of 2 weeks before SYF. Put in all your effort and you won't regret. =)

Roger =)

Looks like Wednesday is an important day because there are so many things to settle hence, your attendance would be greatly appreciated :)

Should I also remind all of you to be punctual (unless you have valid reasons), if not you’ll be FINED $1, whereby the amount will increase as the occurrence of your latecoming increases. Don’t say I didn’t warn you ;)

Thursday 16 April

This is for the Tenors.

We are having sectionals at 5pm to around 6.30pm this thursday. Come whenever you end, the earlier we clear up the wrong notes, the faster we can end.

Please try to make time for the extra sectionals because there is really no time anymore.

They are many little mistakes and we really have to work at it. For those who cannot come, please practise and look through your scores at your own time. Those who do come, help those who did not.

Thanks guys :) see you!

Regards,
Amos

Costume Matters

girls' gowns are done already.

now it's the guys turn to have your measurements for your suits taken.

all guys please be there for wednesday's practice because fym,our wardrobe mistress has already contacted the tailor to come down at 6pm on wednesday practice.

so for the sake of the tailor,i expect full attendence from everyone, especially the guys.

if you cant make it on that day for certain reasons, you'll have to go down to the tailor yourself to have your measurements taken.
i want all the guys to look handsome in your suits and the girls pretty in your elegant gown with a suitable off-white colour 2-inch heels.

dont be late.

SYF, 9 more practices. FOCUS!!

Hello all

Since you're on this page, read the post below. Dont just scan and quicky browse through this.

Details you should and must know about SYF

The SYF Central Judging of Choirs will be held in April and May 2009, details as follows:

Junior College/Centralised Institute (JC/CI)
Date : 5 May 2009Time : 9.00 am-6.00 pm
We're the ninth choir, after National Jc.

Venue: Victoria Concert Hall

JUDGING CRITERIA
The judging criteria are as follows:

50% - Technique
Articulation

Diction

Dynamics

Intonation

Rhythm

Tone

50% - Musicianship

Balance

Blend

Expression, (not the face, but how you express the mood of the song. )

Interpretation

Phrasing

Style

AWARDS

The Central Judging provides the opportunity for choirs to benchmark their performance standards. There is no pre-determined number of gold, silver or bronze awards.

Participating choirs will be awarded certificates based on their performances as follows:

Gold 80% and above
• Silver 70% to 79%
• Bronze 60% to 69%
• Certificate of Participation 59% and below
To recognise the outstanding achievement of choirs that have attained high performance standards, schools that obtain a final mark of 85% and above will receive the Gold award (with Honours).

The decision of the panel of adjudicators is final and no appeal will be entertained.

Having read this, i hope you all will not lose focus during practices, regardless its secitonals or extra sectionals or combine. All are equally important and you should always put in your best foot forward.

We need to sense the urgency that we have not enough time left. Its not possible to correct the same mistakes every single practice. We have other parts to work on too. So please take some time off( preferably, 15-30 mins off daily to recap what your sectional leader has gone through with you.) Its best to reach home when your mind is still refresh of what we have just done.

AND

If there's anything you're unsure, do take the INITIATIVE to ask your sectional leaders how this is going to be done in the correct way. You cant expect them to approach you all the time. It takes 2 hand to clap, and both needs to put the same effort into your song as well.
Perform your best and you'll have no regrets.

Everyone must play a part in this. We are a choir, and that means

One choir, one sound.

No one is going to be left out.

LASTLY,

Believe in yourself, AND

Believe in the CHOIR that we can do this together and achieve our ultimate goal.

Love,

Sara Lee <3

Getting to Aliwal Street

i'm sure those who have signed up for the yahoo groups, you all must have already received wan rong's email.
i'm making sure this is the last time i'm transferring info from there to here,so make sure go sign up for the yahoo groups if you havent.

Dearest Choir,

Attached is a detailed map in how to get to Aliwal Street.
Meet at Bugis Station.

As you can see from the bottom left corner, there's a Golden Landmark Shopping Complex. Before getting to Golden Landmark Shopping Complex, you will reach Raffles Hospital which is just beside Golden Landmark(can't be seen because the map got chopped off).

After walking pass the Golden Landmark, walk along the north bridge road and turn into Kandahar Street and cut through Malay Heritage Centre. There is a carpark beside the heritage centre. And then you will safely reach Aliwal Street.

It is best to print it out and get your way there. Hope this helps!!

Address is: Blk 32 Aliwal Street, Number One Costume Costume (there is a bigbig bat man's car parked outside the building).

Enter the building and take the stais on your left up to 3rd Level, where studio A/B are located.

umm.i'm sure you all understand instructions ya?
please meet in advance before walking there.
DONT BE LATE.
so,please gauge the time that you need to find your way there.

see you guys there!

drink more water & take care of yourselves!!!

[dont fall sick like me.lol]

Choir Tee!!

I really would like to have a choir tee before we go for the Europe trip, so this is a shout-out to the whole choir: If you can draw, or have a design in mind, please pass it to either me( Reb a.k.a VP) or Fym(wardrobe mistress) latest by THIS SATURDAY. We would really love to hear your input, and have a design that we all would be proud to wear.

Just take note that the t-shirt design should contain:
-the words 'TPJC'/'Tampines Junior College' and 'choir', or 'TPJChoir'
-nothing offensive and vulgar

Also, consider what colour the shirt must be, as we don't want it to be the same as the other CCA shirts that have already been printed. (I think the general consensous is for a black tee, but you can consider whatever colour you want)

Don't forget this Friday's practise, I'll see you all there :)

Good Friday's Practice

Hey all,
there is practice this friday.
Ms Ong booked a venue near lavender MRT this friday afternoon from 1-7pm.
Keep your time free for this period of time.
but different sections will go at different timings.

Please keep in mind that SYF is less than a month away & apparantly, there isn't any other suitable days to make up for the lost time for this fri's practice.
So,cooperate & come for prac.
We still have to perform at PJ on saturday.
i'm sure all of you wont want to screw up the songs again, especially in another school.

P.S Dont ask me why, because i do not have the answers to your questions.

P.P.S Take care of yourselves, especially those who were drenched in the rain last sat. I dont want all of you to fall sick at this period of time. Drink lots of warm water. :)

SOJ, Nachtwache, Alleluja

Hey yo, Amanda here (:

Altos, please remember the extra sectionals on Tuesday, 4:30 in CHOIR ROOM. Those who finish lessons later, just go to choir room asap. We'll hopefully finish by 6:30, later if necessary.

This goes out to all sections, please do go through whatever we've done today, remember and apply it during the next practice. Don't let all our efforts go down the drain.

After listening to our choir exchange recording, we definitely have improved but it isn't enough. So do continue to work hard, don't burn out, rest well and keep on improving (:

Gotta dash off, see ya'll next Wednesday (:

P.S. For those who're cheering the soccer boys on Monday, don't scream 'til you lose your voice hor. ><
