Your SLs will give you a template for you to tick at the slots where you are free.

Next, CAROLING ATTIRE
Guys : BLACK long-sleeved shirt, BLACK long pants, BLACK formal shoes (those worn during syf), BLACK socks.
The girls have 2 options for the attire.

People, jst in case you guys have not noticed yet, Choir's attendance is not up to standard.
For those who are keen on quitting Choir jst bcos you think Choir's boring, Choir's taking up too much of your time, Choir's too tiring etcetc, PLEASE THINK FOR THE CHOIR AS A WHOLE.
Our seniors always say that for Choir, it's not jst one person who can make everything perfect.
Everyone has to do their part &contribute to make the Choir a better one.
If anyone decides to jst leave halfway &quit all because you think Choir sucks, pls think twice.
Think about all the efforts and time you've put into your CCA for the whole year. Think about the friends you've made through your CCA.
Please, just try to stay on for the remaining 6 months, thats all.

Our practices timings may kinda get longer for these few sessions but please bear with it.
With the upcoming carolings, i think it's reasonable that we have these practices.
So no matter how unwilling you are to attend Choir, please attend.

On a lighter note, Choir prac will start at 230pm and end at arnd 530pm on Wednesday, &there'll be no practices on Friday. :)
Faisal (Bass), Timothy(Tenor) and EkNgee(Alto) from WildEmpire are taking their time to help us with our sectionals on Wednesday, especially for TheChristmasSong.

Pls cooperate to make the Choir a better one. :)

Wendy.

The battle's not over yet

I know many are disappointed that we didn't achieve the gold we were aiming for, but considering our circumstances, I am proud of how we held oursleves yesterday, and extremely proud of how much we have matured and grown together. No matter what, we're still a strong choir, and we will do better for the next time we perform, yes?

I appeal more to those who may have come from better choirs. Personally, I'll admit that I have problems with my singing, and I depend alot on the help and advice of those around me. Always do your best, and help the rest of your choirmates. That way, the choir benefits from your experience, and can grow to be the best choir in the world! (lol, sorry, couldn't resist)

Can I also ask a favour from those who took pictures? Please pass them around, so that we can remember the fun times as well.

Admin side....
Update concerning choir practises as well, the practise tomorrow(7 May) is cancelled, and we resume on Friday as per usual. Will be singing Sounds of Joy and Song Da Ge for College day (which is on 16 May), so do listen to the Midis and be ready to sing SOJ again.

The final deadline for Europe trip participants is THIS Friday as well. Please try to convince your parents to let you go, it's really a once in a lifetime opportunity. And this is our chance to win not one, but two golds for the choir.

I'll just end off with a quote from a poem "The Solitary Reaper" by Willaim Wordsworth:
'The music in my heart I bore, long after it was heard no more'
Come the end of this short, short time together, may we always hang on to the music we have learnt, and never stop singing.

Luv, Rebecca =)

SILVER is still our hard-earned pride & glory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S ALL IN YOUR MIND

Don't even underestimate the power of your own mind. Even if you think otherwise. Even simple positive thoughts will help you maintain your cool and keep things in a positive light. Being focused during practices will help you internalize many details you are required to take note of. Being focused on stage helps you control your emotions and set your singing right. Have FAITH in youself. If you don't, who will...?

Why dwell in the past? Why think about all the mistakes that you have made? Probably the ONLY reason for you to think about the past, is to find the REASON for your mistake, such that you NEVER make them again. Why let this mistake linger in your mind forever and ever, and only to haunt you and make you nervous? Let go of your mistakes and LOOK FORWARD. Think about what you CAN do, and DO IT to the BEST OF YOUR ABILITY.

Something I need you all to realize: Fear is created by yourself. And probably the only way to overcome it, is to BELIEVE that you are CONFIDENT of facing it. NEVER EVER have the thought that you will be engulfed in fear, and that you will not do anything right. The moment that thought enters your mind, the worst will happen. Come on, face it. Everyone has to face their worst fears at some point of their lives. If this is your fear, then I think it's about time for you to start believing in yourself that you CAN overcome it.

It's not like we have not shown good standard before. WE HAVE DONE IT BEFORE. So why can't we do it again...? Stop letting your fear take control of your life. CONTROL YOU VERY OWN LIFE! NEVER SUCCUMB TO "FATE". ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE HOW AND WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN IN YOUR OWN LIFE. And I believe that time is now...

Right...?

Roger.

URGENT [EDITED]

Hey people!
Please take note of the following:

Ladies:
Bring $47.90
(heels). [REFER TO POST BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS]

Paying by instalment is accepted(as mentioned in Fym's online msg) but not prefered because it gets messy.

Anyhow, as long as I get the full amount latest by this saturday, 25th April,
Im cool with anything :)

Gentlemen:
Bring $115 (Blazer + Tie).

[You'll get $30 in return for each of you from the school later]

Our 2005 senior batches paid $200 for their blazers(w/o ties!), so dont complain okay~

J2s, you are only required to pay the amount listed at the yellow column, which is the amount after deduction from your caroling payout :)

Pass the money to your SLs latest by May 1st.

Queries @ the tagboard or (online)msg Fym or me.

Many thanks,
Ming En ;)

Shoes (GIRLS)

Hey girls!

This is official.

The shoes we intend to standardise to purchase is in pale gold colour. Cost is $47.90 (ORIGINAL PRICE $59.90). I know. Freaking EXXPENSIVE!!!!! But trust me, you'll look gorgeous in it.

Best situation is to standardise: Everone to buy this pair of shoes. Save you the trouble to find time to look for appropriate shoes too.

I'll bring in a pair of this shoes in tmrw's sop voice training session.

If you do not want to purchase the shoes, let me know, and bring your shoes u are wearing on SYF to show me on this Wednesday practice. So i can check your shoes with this standardised colour and confirm if you really can choose not to buy.

Thanks. Have a great day.

p/s thanks everyone for the efficiency to let me note the shoe sizes so quickly yesterday! awesome discipline :)

More vocal health TIPS (:

- Be sure you keep your vocal folds moist and well lubricated. You can do this by drinking plenty of liquids throughout the day.

- Keep tea and coffee consumption to a minimum though, as the caffeine in these drinks dries out the vocal folds and can make the voice sound raspy and scratchy. Alcohol is also bad for the voice, as it dehydrates the body and therefore the vocal folds.

- Take time to take a relaxed, deep breath when you need to before you start to sing or speak. It will make you feel calmer and more confident.

- After speaking for a long time, warm-down by drinking some tepid water. Yawn and then breathe deeply. A yawn is a good exercise for singing as well.

- To nurse your voice through a cold or a throat infection, steam it - put some hot water in a basin, lean over it gently with a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Be careful not to scald yourself! For the best results, do this several times a day for approximately 10 minutes at a time.

- Look after your voice. Don't strain it. Eliminate background noise before you try to speak loudly over it. If you have to project your voice, always use breath support.

- Watch that you DO NOT push your voices from the throat. When you speak, your navel should move towards your backbone. If this doesn't happen, you won't get the best from your voice and you may even damage your voice without realising it.

Oh, and no orange juice too! :D

Love, Sara Lee <3

watch ur DIET!

Hey choir ppl!

As you know, the SYF and the Europe trip is coming up, and we should all be keeping our voice in good shape.

So from TODAY onwards, (no more "aiyah tomorrow then I start") as much as possible, please avoid dairy products, spicy food, chocolates, or anything that causes throat irritation and phlegm.

Only those responsible and willing ones will benefit from this, and it's up to your self-control to keep your voice + throat in the best condition possible, which is to try to get rid of all the phlegm in ur throat. (read: yourself)

6 more practices to go!!! Last stretch of 2 weeks before SYF. Put in all your effort and you won't regret. =)

Roger =)

Thursday 16 April

This is for the Tenors.

We are having sectionals at 5pm to around 6.30pm this thursday. Come whenever you end, the earlier we clear up the wrong notes, the faster we can end.

Please try to make time for the extra sectionals because there is really no time anymore.

They are many little mistakes and we really have to work at it. For those who cannot come, please practise and look through your scores at your own time. Those who do come, help those who did not.

Thanks guys :) see you!

Regards,
Amos

so for the sake of the tailor,i expect full attendence from everyone, especially the guys.

if you cant make it on that day for certain reasons, you'll have to go down to the tailor yourself to have your measurements taken.
i want all the guys to look handsome in your suits and the girls pretty in your elegant gown with a suitable off-white colour 2-inch heels.

dont be late.
see you all!

SYF, 9 more practices. FOCUS!!

Hello all

Since you're on this page, read the post below. Dont just scan and quicky browse through this.

Details you should and must know about SYF

The SYF Central Judging of Choirs will be held in April and May 2009, details as follows:

Junior College/Centralised Institute (JC/CI)
Date : 5 May 2009Time : 9.00 am-6.00 pm
We're the ninth choir, after National Jc.

Venue: Victoria Concert Hall

JUDGING CRITERIA
The judging criteria are as follows:

50% - Technique
Articulation

Diction

Dynamics

Intonation

Rhythm

Tone

50% - Musicianship

Balance

Blend

Expression, (not the face, but how you express the mood of the song. )

Interpretation

Phrasing

Style

AWARDS

The Central Judging provides the opportunity for choirs to benchmark their performance standards. There is no pre-determined number of gold, silver or bronze awards.

Participating choirs will be awarded certificates based on their performances as follows:

Gold 80% and above
• Silver 70% to 79%
• Bronze 60% to 69%
• Certificate of Participation 59% and below
To recognise the outstanding achievement of choirs that have attained high performance standards, schools that obtain a final mark of 85% and above will receive the Gold award (with Honours).

The decision of the panel of adjudicators is final and no appeal will be entertained.

Having read this, i hope you all will not lose focus during practices, regardless its secitonals or extra sectionals or combine. All are equally important and you should always put in your best foot forward.

We need to sense the urgency that we have not enough time left. Its not possible to correct the same mistakes every single practice. We have other parts to work on too. So please take some time off( preferably, 15-30 mins off daily to recap what your sectional leader has gone through with you.) Its best to reach home when your mind is still refresh of what we have just done.

AND

If there's anything you're unsure, do take the INITIATIVE to ask your sectional leaders how this is going to be done in the correct way. You cant expect them to approach you all the time. It takes 2 hand to clap, and both needs to put the same effort into your song as well.
Perform your best and you'll have no regrets.

Everyone must play a part in this. We are a choir, and that means

One choir, one sound.

No one is going to be left out.

LASTLY,

Believe in yourself, AND

Believe in the CHOIR that we can do this together and achieve our ultimate goal.

Love,

Sara Lee <3

Getting to Aliwal Street

i'm sure those who have signed up for the yahoo groups, you all must have already received wan rong's email.
i'm making sure this is the last time i'm transferring info from there to here,so make sure go sign up for the yahoo groups if you havent.

Dearest Choir,

Attached is a detailed map in how to get to Aliwal Street.
Meet at Bugis Station.

As you can see from the bottom left corner, there's a Golden Landmark Shopping Complex. Before getting to Golden Landmark Shopping Complex, you will reach Raffles Hospital which is just beside Golden Landmark(can't be seen because the map got chopped off).

After walking pass the Golden Landmark, walk along the north bridge road and turn into Kandahar Street and cut through Malay Heritage Centre. There is a carpark beside the heritage centre. And then you will safely reach Aliwal Street.

It is best to print it out and get your way there. Hope this helps!!

Address is: Blk 32 Aliwal Street, Number One Costume Costume (there is a bigbig bat man's car parked outside the building).

Enter the building and take the stais on your left up to 3rd Level, where studio A/B are located.

umm.i'm sure you all understand instructions ya?
please meet in advance before walking there.
DONT BE LATE.
so,please gauge the time that you need to find your way there.

see you guys there!

drink more water & take care of yourselves!!!

Choir Tee!!

I really would like to have a choir tee before we go for the Europe trip, so this is a shout-out to the whole choir: If you can draw, or have a design in mind, please pass it to either me( Reb a.k.a VP) or Fym(wardrobe mistress) latest by THIS SATURDAY. We would really love to hear your input, and have a design that we all would be proud to wear.

Just take note that the t-shirt design should contain:
-the words 'TPJC'/'Tampines Junior College' and 'choir', or 'TPJChoir'
-nothing offensive and vulgar

Also, consider what colour the shirt must be, as we don't want it to be the same as the other CCA shirts that have already been printed. (I think the general consensous is for a black tee, but you can consider whatever colour you want)

Don't forget this Friday's practise, I'll see you all there :)

Good Friday's Practice

Hey all,
there is practice this friday.
Ms Ong booked a venue near lavender MRT this friday afternoon from 1-7pm.
Keep your time free for this period of time.
but different sections will go at different timings.

Please keep in mind that SYF is less than a month away & apparantly, there isn't any other suitable days to make up for the lost time for this fri's practice.
So,cooperate & come for prac.
We still have to perform at PJ on saturday.
i'm sure all of you wont want to screw up the songs again, especially in another school.

P.S Dont ask me why, because i do not have the answers to your questions.

P.P.S Take care of yourselves, especially those who were drenched in the rain last sat. I dont want all of you to fall sick at this period of time. Drink lots of warm water. :)

SOJ, Nachtwache, Alleluja

Hey yo, Amanda here (:

Altos, please remember the extra sectionals on Tuesday, 4:30 in CHOIR ROOM. Those who finish lessons later, just go to choir room asap. We'll hopefully finish by 6:30, later if necessary.

This goes out to all sections, please do go through whatever we've done today, remember and apply it during the next practice. Don't let all our efforts go down the drain.

After listening to our choir exchange recording, we definitely have improved but it isn't enough. So do continue to work hard, don't burn out, rest well and keep on improving (:

Gotta dash off, see ya'll next Wednesday (:

P.S. For those who're cheering the soccer boys on Monday, don't scream 'til you lose your voice hor. ><

20.03.09

[from my perspective]

Immerse your voice

Into the sorrowful rhythm

Of that graceful night wind

The wind full of cries, full of misery

From a broken world left unnoticed.

__Nachwache I.

The melody of the dance

With a hidden story

Left unsung...

For us to sing

__Sounds of joy

Stillness deep in my heart

Lives a prayer

A longing for something...

Beyond reach

___Allelujah

But,

"With determination, nothing is beyond reach."

We can do it, TPJChoir. :-)

~Fym
(Hopefully these pics can help in envisioning the songs...)

20 March 2009, A change that we should see in each and every of us.

Hey guys,
i'm sure each and every of us must have felt the same after today's performace at VJC. Disappointed, after we've work so hard on our pieces for the past few weeks.

Hmm. i choose not to disclose much stuff here, will talk to you guys soon during choir cos its pretty inconvenient.

But in general, this is not the time to point finger's which section or who's at fault.

This choir consists of each and everyone of us, and how we work together as a choir gives us the sound quality we want to achieve. One choir, one sound.

I suppose there are two ways to see today's performace. You either take it as an encouragement to spur you on to work even harder, or.. to see it as a disappointment and leave things the way it is. I know we're disheartened, but do not let this emotion take over you and affect the rest of your performance.

But, do not shrug this lesson aside, remember and learn from this. Take today as a lesson to be learnt.

We believe that each and every one of us are capable to acheiving greater heights.

Do take your sectional and warm up seriously.

and Yes, Actions speak louder than words.

Remember, the best is yet to be. Believe in yourself k. Read below:

Cheer up all, we all can do it! (:

With much love,
Sara Lee

it brings back those concert memories last year..
the performance at Esplanade last year during our Phasir De Chanson concert last year.

just look at the proportion! haha. and thank goodness we are going to have a change in the gowns, GIRLS!!! :D

let's hope we can perform better than this at Slovakia.
but we must first clinch that GOLD back (hopefully we can add the honours behind) during SYF.
JIAYOU!

Saturday, March 14, 2009

Hi all, let me try to put up the rest of the pictures now.* If any one has any more pictures to share on the blog, you can pass them to me or Wan Ling to upload.

*Ok, computer's having some problems, so I'm holding back the group photos for just alittle while more. So sorry >.<

Another thing: this concerns the SAF(S'pore Arts Festival) concerts, the juniors have to attend 2 concerts while the seniors can choose to go for both or just one.
Compulsory for both to attend Moscow State Chamber Choir on 11 June @ 7.30pm. Seniors can also choose to attend the Ladysmith Black Mambazo on 14 June @ 7.30pm as well.
To avoid too many administrative problems, all seniors are immediately signed up for the Moscow choir, and only those seniors who can pay up for (and want to watch) the Ladysmith Black Mambazo can sign up.
Absolute final deadline for collection of money is this Wednesday. See, pays to read the blog.

See you all bright and shiny next Tuesday =)

~Rebecca(VP)

See if you can recognise who this is ;)

$$$

Hey people!
Everyone is required to go for the two concerts mentioned before by the teachers.
Please bring $30 tomorrow, (as this is quite a huge sum, pass it to me personally)
you'll get $18 back for the subsidy another time.
So in the end, you'll only pay $12 for two world class concerts, issnt that great? :D

Love,
Ming En (the nice ah long ^^)

IMPORTANT DETAILS FOR MARCH HOILDAYS

helloooo choirrrr..

like you all have heard, we have some activities during the March holidays.

one word of advice: dont ever think your holidays will be free when you're in JC.

sorry, but, yup, since SYF is in less than 2 months, we have no choice.

YOU HAVE TO TURN UP FOR EVERY PRACTICE. (sorry amos, but i really have to use CAPS to emphasize the imporatance)

and J1s study for your profiling tests & J2s revise for your SA1s!

take note of these dates again!

17 MARCH - Workshop @ Raffles Music College . we'll be in school at 8am and there will only be one way transport. Whoever doesnt know where it is, click HERE. you all have to make your way back on your own.

18 MARCH- VERY IMPORTANT PRACTICE IN SCHOOL @ 9am - 12pm before friday's performance.
you can wear half-u during holidays.

20 MARCH - THE PERFORMANCE AT VJ. with other JC choirs. please dont disgrace yourselves ok. we must show the unexpected PRO side of our own choir, so other JC choirs, esp the top few dont look down on us.

ANYWAY, we'll practice in school @ 9am & leave for VJ @ 1pm.

alright..that's all for now.

P.S anyone interested in taking over my position after the seniors step down? let me know. thanks.

lots of love,
YOUR SECRETARY
Wan Ling :D

Camp photos

Since you all asked, here they are. Enjoy :)

But first, please remember to brush up on your Everlasting Melody, NOT 'melamine'. If I catch you corrupting this nice song, well, let's just says the consequence will be...painful. Same goes for Alleluja, say it with me: Ah- LEE- lu- yah.

Choir please take note that this Friday we will have to do a short performance for the TPJC staff and principal and 2 vice-principals. We are doing Everlasting, so please work hard at it. Don't forget who's providing the funding for our Europe trip (hint hint ;) )

Please take care of yourselves and your voices as we push on towards the SYF.

Ok, this is just the first set of photos, please wait till I have more time to upload in the near future. =)

Luv, your VP

PRACTICE ON 11 MARCH

HEY PEOPLE.

practice as per normal at 2.30pm.
it will be extended to around 6.30pm to make up for the practice lost during road run.
anyway,we have to practice mama mia & everlasting melody for a performance on friday.

choral songs you should listen to =)

Yoru!!!

This is the song that i'm asking Ms Ong to let us sing for the Europe Trip... But she feels we are not gentle enough to attempt this song lol.

Salve Regina (the one we just learnt, no offence to our muslim mates)

Sops were a bit flat, but still nice overall =)

Credo (again, no offence to our muslim mates, but a lot of choral works are religious :|. I'm nt christian btw.)

Some parts a bit weird, but its a VERY nice song (and quite difficult too) if you sing it correctly. Sops got high A (alleluia highest note. should be no kick ler right? haha!), bass 2s got low E-flat (3 semi-tones down from ur lowest note in nachtwache). Go sharp, sops die. Go flat, bass die. lol.

Roger =)

RANDOM

OK.
PEOPLE.

if you didnt know a TPJChoir facebook group actually exists, here's the link for you to add..
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?sid=81da484af49a9b19464c397aa0da73a4&gid=43428700463
haha. at least the seniors will know how great & fun their juniors are. :D

and, speaking of studies, anyone game for a choir study group? lol.

CHOIR CAMP 2009

HELLO ALL ~

FINALLY! the choir camp is over :D

i'm sure all of you had loads of fun with your groups during the race :)
even though it was tiring, but at least you all got to bond & interact together as much as you all want during the process of the race.
it's definitely a great starting point for everyone to get to know each other much better.
at least you start to know each other better in your own group, then you'll be able to know the whole choir well. haha.
anyway,it was really a huge successful with all of you present & attended the camp throughout :D
thank you for your participation! & i hope you do gain valuable experience & benefit from whatever you have learnt from this camp.

J1s,it'll be your turn next year to do such thing,so please do a even better choir camp next year! MUAHAHAHAHA~

Just a reminder, for the next few weeks, we have to practice quite some time for our SYF pieces plus the SHOWCASE THING. GOSH. so, everyone,do your best to perfect our songs ok? like during the next practice. at least we won't have to lose face in front of the other top JC choirs.

LET'S GO CHOIR LET'S GO! :D
